ABOUT ME

MY STORY

HI. I’m Danica Russell, and I love convincing people to do stuff.

In addition to being a professional rabblerouser, I have worked in mobilization and engagement for 15+ years, taking complex social justice issues, and making them bite-sized and delicious. I  received a BA in Fine Art, with an emphasis in drawing and photography because of much encouragement from professors due to margin doodles. I then worked in Interior Design, specializing in art, accessories, and children’s lifestyle, until helping co-found the groundbreaking movement that was Invisible Children. In my 12 years there, I served as a Graphic Designer, Photographer, Script Doctor, Head Copywriter, and Art Director—overseeing and producing countless IC print and film media, and mobilization campaigns. I have also taught art, dance, and music to children all over America, and those rehabilitating from war in Africa, and I conclusively believe- the hardest thing in the world is making the world simple. As Co-founder of the creative agency, Broomstick Engine, I was the words behind the visuals: shaping content, writing and clarifying marketing strategy and slogans for international campaigns, art direction for corporate branding and rebranding, and engagement for social impact initiatives. Then, after over a decade of social justice work, I self-published a children’s book called, “A Little Radical,” featuring my unique artistic style, playful voice, and expertise in activism- to tell kids that it’s cool to care. In real life, I love hanging out with my own 2 kids, tap dancing, and fine wine. I am based out of Encinitas, California, and hope I always will be.
